Carsten Thomas is professor for systems engineering at the HTW Berlin, University of Applied Sciences. Previously, he held various management positions in the railway, aerospace and defence industries. He began his career at Daimler Group Research working in the fields of system simulation and dependanble systems. In 1999, he joined Airbus, where he was responsible for the development of safety-critical aircraft systems, including flight control and air conditioning. He later led an aerospace and defence product unit organisation at Rheinmetall and major transnational development programmes at an Airbus subsidiary. From 2014 to 2017, Carsten was responsible for the Train Control and Management System product platform in Bombardier Transportation and led the corresponding transnational development organisation. In 2017, he joined the university as a professor of systems engineering, where he focuses on the development of safety-critical systems in the automotive, aerospace and railway sectors.

Marco Ferrogalini has more than 20 years of experience in the development of complex systems for sports cars, rail vehicles and in the aerospace industry.
He has always acted on two axes: On the one hand, he develops processes / methods / tools in this field, on the other hand, he leads large engineering teams on the operational side.
He has extensive experience with modeling and simulation (FEM, vehicle dynamics, CFD, acoustics) with a strong focus on MBSE (Model-Based Systems Engineering). Over the past decade, he has pioneered the introduction of this approach to the rail industry.
He currently leads digital transformation in modeling and simulation and MBSE at Airbus.
Marco has been certified as an INCOSE CSEP since January 2013.

Patrick Le Gurriec worked for Airbus for 34 years, as Head of Aircraft Certification, as an international expert on Design Organization Approval, as Head of the European DOA Think Tank, as Head of DOA Management and most recently as DOA Manager for Special Missions. Prior to that, he worked at the Institute of Air Transport as head of technical studies. Throughout his career, Patrick has been a member of various public organisations, including the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG) and the AeroSpace and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD) as a member of the Airworthiness Committee and Chairman of the Safety and Quality Standards Panel. He supported the European Aerospace Quality Group (EAQG) Executive Committee as DOA Coordinator and contributed as EASA safety expert and independent expert (civil and military).

Jan-Peter Munk has extensive experience in systems engineering and quality management in the aerospace and defence sector. He studied aerospace engineering at the TU Berlin (Germany) and at the Civil Aviation Academy in St. Petersburg (Russia). His career includes positions as development engineer and project/programme manager at Daimler-Benz Aerospace Military Aircraft (now Airbus), Fairchild Dornier, Grob Aerospace, Eurocopter/Airbus Helicopters and Hensoldt. He also worked as technoogy consultant in the automotive sector with Berata / Altran Germany and Akka Technologies. His core competencies are in the areas of system development, integration and verification processes, and avionics architectures.

Dr. Uwe Kucharzyk

Uwe Kucharzyk is a freelance consultant working closely with Thaurion. Uwe has extensive experience in the rail industry, having worked for AEG Westinghouse Transportation Systems, ADtranz, and Bombardier Transportation since 1990. Uwe has held various management positions in the areas of research and development, product management, marketing and sales, and services. His focus is on system and software engineering, solution architecture and the definition of platform strategies. He has been involved in a large number of rail vehicle projects, both in the tendering process and in project implementation.

Dr. Thomas Scherer

Thomas Scherer has 32 years of technical and managerial experience in systems and aerospace engineering, in recent years with a focus on innovative energy systems. Thomas began his career in 1989 as a systems engineer in the aerospace industry. He led several project and engineering organisations at Airbus, including the transnational development organisation for air conditioning systems, and held various senior positions, including engineering organisation representative on the Board of Directors of Airbus Germany. From 2015 to 2021, Thomas served as Airbus Executive Expert / Technical Fellow for Energy Management and Supply, focusing on new technologies such as zero-emission flying, hydrogen fuel and fuel cell technology. Since 2021, he is freelance engineering consultant working closely with Thaurion.
